5 Elements of a Southern Breakfast

As you walk into Elvira’s Cafe on a bright summer morning, the first thing you’ll see is a warm kitchen that smells like sizzling bacon, freshly baked biscuits, and corn syrup. That’s because we know that breakfast is a perfect opportunity for us to make your day special!

Got a hankering for a complete Southern breakfast experience? Ask for these five essential elements: bread, meat, potatoes, eggs, and grits because without them, the experience you desire simply won’t be there.

Biscuits

Biscuits are our breakfast bread of choice. Their secret is in the preparation process and ingredients. And to make them look perfect, we paint them with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven! Toss the toast - when the waitress asks you about your bread preference, you will never go wrong by saying “Biscuits!”

Meats

Our meats are sourced from local producers such as Smoky Mountain Country Hams (Benton’s Bacon) and Swaggerty Farms - a farm where we purchase pork for our biscuits and gravy. These names have a long reputable history of Appalachan animal farming, using only the best ingredients and tired and true preparation processes. You will be surprised to find these quality brands not only at Elvira’s but also at some of the finest restaurants across the nation.

Potatoes

There are so many different ways to prepare potatoes as a side dish for virtually any breakfast. Our favorite, however, is a cheesy hash brown casserole. Elvira’s Cafe guests say it steals the show for them every time because there is always something wonderful and comforting about the combination of potatoes and Cheddar cheese. Hash brown casserole pairs well with sausage, bacon, ham, and other breakfast items from our menu.

Eggs

We take our eggs seriously as they come only from trusted local suppliers. Tennessee Valley Eggs is our farm of choice because they put your family’s health first by raising happy healthy hens who lay eggs just as equally happy and healthy. No trans fat, no hormones, no pesticides, no antibiotics, no animal by-products - only all neutral grain feed is used to fuel these cage-free birds!

Grits

When in the South, do as Southerners do and ask for grits! Made from select ground-up cornmeal purchased at a local grist mill in Pigeon Forge, our grits are naturally thick and heavy in texture, and creamy in flavor. We serve them warm with butter to accompany your country ham or early riser’s breakfast.
